ITALY SHIRTS
Twenty-eight Italy shirts, four World Cup finals' worth of history between them, from the Diadora blue of the late eighties through the Kappa years of Totti and Vieri to the Puma shirt Materazzi wore lifting the trophy in Berlin. Every one is the original from its own season, hand-checked for condition and photographed as it is.
More information
Diadora years: 1990 and 1994
The 1986-90 Diadora home shirt is from the design Italy wore hosting the 1990 World Cup, where the team finished third after losing the semi-final to Argentina on penalties. Four years later, the 1994 shirts here, Baggio in 10 and Maldini in 5, are from the World Cup final in the United States, the one Italy lost to Brazil on penalties after Baggio put his over the bar in the shootout. A second Baggio 1994 shirt in this collection carries the same story.
Nike and Kappa in between
Nike held the kit through the mid-to-late nineties, and Baggio and Maldini shirts from 1996-98 in stock, plus a training shirt from the same years, track that stretch. Kappa took over after, and the Totti and Vieri shirts from 2002-03, plus a 2000-01 home shirt and a 1998-99 shirt, cover the years Totti and Vieri led the front line, without pinning any one of them to a single tournament, since the kit ran across several seasons and squads.
2006, champions of the world
The 2006 Materazzi shirt, numbered 23, is the Puma design Italy wore winning the World Cup in Germany, Materazzi scoring in the final against France in the match remembered as much for the Zidane headbutt as the result. It is the only World Cup-winning shirt in this collection, and the only one here from a tournament Italy actually won, which makes it the shirt most collectors ask for by name.
Puma years after 2006
The rest of the Puma shirts follow the years after: a Del Piero home shirt from 2003-04, a de Rossi shirt from 2010-11, an Pirlo shirt from 2010-12 still with tags, into the Euro 2012 final Italy lost to Spain, and an Insigne player issue shirt plus a Pirlo away shirt from 2014-15, the cycle around the World Cup in Brazil where Italy went out in the group stage. Sizing on all of these runs small against modern kits, so check the pit to pit measurement on the listing rather than the label.
