Two years earlier, Bulgaria had reached the World Cup semi-final in the United States behind Hristo Stoichkov, the country's best finish by a distance. This shirt is close to the design worn at Euro 96 in England the following tournament, where Bulgaria went out in the group stage, unable to repeat the run that had briefly made them one of the most talked-about teams in the world.
