Measurements
Vintage sizing is not consistent. A size L from 1994 is not a size L from 2014, and every brand cut its own pattern. That is why every shirt in the shop is measured by hand and the centimetres are listed on the product page.
ABLength
Highest point of the shoulder, straight down to the bottom hem.
Width
Armpit to armpit, straight across the chest.
Shirt laid flat, never stretched. Allow around 1 cm.
Why the size on the label means little
Boxy, wide, short
2000sSlimmer, longer
2010sTighter, shorter sleeves
Player issueCut very tight
Home, away, goalkeeper and training shirts of the same club and season can still differ, and match issue shirts follow their own sizing again. The centimetres tell you what the letter cannot.
